Mildred Carter Jones

Mildred Carter Jones, 97 of Ferrum passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Jones. She was a daughter of the late Charlie E. Carter and Berta Young Carter; step-daughter of Gladys Gibson Carter. She was also preceded in death by sons, James Charlie Jones (J.C.) and Roger Lee Jones; grandchildren, Michael and Melinda Potter, Jeffery Jones and Lonnie Jones; brothers, Gerald, Nathaniel , Donald, Noel and Lane Carter; sisters, Lolene Mitchell, Lois McGhee, Doris Foster and Pauline Still. Her surviving children are her son, Tommy O. Jones and wife Nettie; daughters, Betty French and her husband Raeburn, Peggy Potter and husband Dennis, Sharon Davis and husband Stevie; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ileta Peters, Nellie Kritter and Faye Fisher; brother, Ray Carter; sisters-in-law, Vera LaPrade, Arlene Carter and Reba Carter; many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Republican Primitive Baptist Church in Ferrum since April 1948. She was a hard worker, loving endlessly her family and friends. She was well remembered for her annual church dinners that she prepared each May for all of her friends and church family. She retired from Virginia Apparel after 32 years. In her retirement she had many hobbies, including quilting and sold many to craft shops all in Virgina. She also loved working in her flowers. Mama is in heaven preparing a meal and serving everyone a glass of iced cold sweet tea. Her family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Republican Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Betty French, P.O. Box 703 Fieldale, VA 24089.Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 with Elder Junior Conner and Elder Marvin Brumfield officiating. Interment will follow in Carter-Young Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
