Mildred Wingfield Turner Ramsey

Mildred Wingfield Turner Ramsey, age 86 of Rocky Mount passed from this life on Saturday, November 12, 2011 to rejoin her beloved late husband of 57 years, Stuart Ramsey, and her youngest daughter, Joyce Ramsey-Goad. She is survived by her oldest daughter, Donna Bowers and husband Les, Roanoke; two special grandsons, Les Bowers and wife Carleen, Durham, NC and Brad Bowers and wife Morgan, Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Turner, Figsboro and Mabel R. Naff, Roanoke; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her cat “Patty Cake”. Mildred was a kind and generous housewife who shared many farming duties with her husband when they ran a dairy and later beef cattle farm. She helped with the cows, worked hard in the garden, canned and froze meats and vegetables, worked in the tobacco field, cared for chickens and pigs, and numerous cats and dogs- the “pet family”- while raising two daughters. Mildred lost her own mother at the age of 7, but learned the art of being a wife and a mother from her sisters that took care of her as she grew up. She became an outstanding example of a warm and loving wife, mother and grandmother who stood by and supported her family. You never left her house hungry, since she always encouraged you to eat more or take some home, and you never left without her telling you to drive carefully going home. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. The family would like to thank her long-time doctor, Dr. Bumgardner, for his kindness, humor, and sincere concern for her health, as well as staff and residents of Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home who befriended and took care of her through all her final stages. The family farm in Sydnorsville will always reflect the beauty and love that grew in the Ramsey family. In lieu of flowers, please donate you time, love, friendship, or gifts to someone in need. Funeral Services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Chris Bennett officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
