Monroe Boyd, age 81 of Ferrum, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016. He played music with the Dry Hill Draggers and enjoyed camping for over 50 years at Jamison Mill Park, where he served as a park attendant for several years. He retired from Leo Scott’s Cabinets with 37 years of service. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Mae Harris Boyd, siblings, Quinton, Clyde, Rachel and Monnie. Surviving are his wife of 55 ½ years, Zelma Smith Boyd, sons, Daniel Boyd (Mary), Stephen Boyd (Jalyn), Jason Boyd, daughter, Shea Martin (Chris), grandchildren, J.T., Nicholas, Courtnee, Steven, Tiffany, Bryor, Nolen-Lynn, Kynston, Talmidge, SheaAnna, Cody, great-grandchildren, Noah and Wesley and many nephews and nieces. The family suggests memorials be made to Henry Baptist Church, 251 Henry Church Rd., Henry, VA 24102 Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Haskew officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
