Myrtle Nunley Abshire, age 94 of Boones Mill, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at her home in Boones Mill.
She was born on October 20, 1913 a daughter of the late Kemp Nunley and Molly Stanback Nunley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. Abshire; daughter-in-law, Betty Minnix Abshire; brothers, Archie, Frank, Pete, Everett, Jack, Charlie and Joe Nunley; one sister, Mamie Wray and a very special friend, Everett Craighead.
She was a housewife until her children were grown and away from home. In her later years she worked in hospitals, nursing home and people’s private home as a care giver. She was also a member of Boones Mill Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her daughter, Esther A. Bolling of Collinsville; two sons, Junior Abshire and daughter-in-law, Shirley of Vinton, Thomas Abshire and special friend, Carolyn Walker of Wirtz; five grandchildren, Greg Abshire (Becca), Cindy Ulrey (Denny), Todd Abshire (Teke), Lee Bolling and Lynn Bolling; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Ulrey, Brice Ulrey, Rachel Abshire, Hannah Abshire and Emmerson Abshire; two sisters, Minnie Minnix of Boones Mill and Margie Byrd of Martinsville; sister-in-law, Ruth Nunley of Penhook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Robert Miller officiating.
The family appreciates flowers or request that memorial contributions be made to Boones Mill Church of the Brethren, 25366 Virgil H. Goode Hwy, Boones Mill, Virginia 24065 or to Hospice.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday with her family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
