Myrtle Lawrence Thornton

Myrtle Thornton, age 92, of College Park, Maryland went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 5, 2011. She was born on October 6, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Myrtle was the beloved wife of Joseph D. Thornton and the daughter of the late Johnnie and Annie (Adkins) Lawrence. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Wilbur L. Thornton of Fairport, N.Y. and his wife Joanne, Patricia J. Figard of Clarksville, Md. and her husband Barry, and Jeffrey C. Thornton of Lanham, Md. and his wife Janet. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister and a brother, Shirley Doss and Aubrey Lawrence of Callands, Va.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 from 10 - 11 am at Flora Funeral Chapel, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Adkins-Lawrence Cemetery. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Berwyn Baptist Church, 4720 Cherokee Street, College Park, Md. 20740.
