Nancy Emmalyn Hamlin, aged 77 and formerly of Rocky Mount, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016. She was born August 19, 1939, the daughter of the late Katie Wills Angle and James Lewis Hamlin. She was also predeceased by her brother, Rodney Lewis Hamlin. Nancy graduated from Franklin County High School in 1957 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Mary Washington College. As a young adult, she was the first woman principal at Moneta Elementary School in Bedford County, from which she retired to raise her three children. In the 1970's, she began working as a realtor, and in the early 1980's, she and her business partner, Audrey Y. Agee, founded Anchor, Inc. Realtors, a successful real estate company that served Franklin County, Smith Mountain Lake, and surrounding areas. She was a member of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce, and Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Upon retirement from her realtor career, she began creating beautiful stained glass artwork and obtained her pilot's license. At her beloved Chestnut Mountain farm "Whisper," she enjoyed sharing her historic home with her faithful Cocker Spaniels, Fleetwood and Sparky and hosted many parties, celebrations, and gatherings for family and friends. Nancy was smart, fun, and vivacious. She was loved by all and will be sadly missed. She is survived by her three children, Susannah Newbill McNeil of Boones Mill, Elizabeth Newbill Harrison of Hardy, and Mark H. Newbill of Rocky Mount, son-in-law Bruce H. Harrison, daughter-in-law Rebeccah Mason Newbill, and four grandchildren, Paul B. McNeil, Tatum C. Newbill, Katherine E. Harrison and B. Alex Harrison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy's name to the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Building Fund. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Pastor Will Waller officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount
