Nellie Ashworth Soyars, age 91 of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008. She was born March 30, 1916. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren and in later years belonged to Antioch Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by a son Ronald Soyars; parents Emmet and Dorinda Bowman Ashworth; brothers Howard (Shorty) and Denton Ashworth; sister Eva Bohn. Surviving are daughter Sherry (Wayne) Hodges; son Tom Soyars; brothers Albert, of Rocky Mount, George of Kansas; sisters Mary Beeghly, Velma (Gene) Meador, Sevilla (Paul) Bower, all of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law Gladys Ashworth; grandchildren Thomas Soyars of Lynchburg, Nette, Rick Dawson, Melony, Cale Oakes, Stacy Hodges; great-grandchildren Monica, Casey, Carla, Ricky, Brian, Nichole Dawson, Hunter, Caleb, Tanner Oakes, Kevin Sawyer; great-great-grandchildren Rylee Williams and Trinity Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie loved visiting friends and family. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafting and especially quilting, which she took pride in doing with the Ashworth sisters for the World Hunger Auction. A memorial service will be conducted from Antioch Church of the Brethren 11:00 a.m. Friday with Rev. Tim Emmons and Pastor Tom Powers officiating.
