Nelson Ray Hodges, age 75 of Rocky Mount died Friday, December 19, 2008.

He was born September 25, 1933 a son of the late Posie L. and Easter J. Hodges. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilmer W. and Rosa Bell Lynch.

Mr. Hodges was a devoted and faithful employee of Ralph Hutcherson and Sons for 55 years and through his working relationship, he became a “member” of their family, treating them as family and being treated as family until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Hodges; children, Rosemary English and Steve (Becky) Hodges; grandchildren, Jessica Hodges, Tara English and Kara English; sisters, Macie Hodges, Nadine (Clifton) Chitwood, Joyce (G.A.) Young; brothers, Junior Hodges, Brady (Marie) Hodges, David (Betty) Hodges, Allen (Peggy) Hodges, Daniel (Judy) Hodges, Billy Hodges and Leslie (Virginia) Hodges; brother-in-law Cecil (Mary Jane) Lynch; sisters-in-law Linda (Ronnie) Altice and Thelma (Ben) Hodges; special family members, Robert Hutcherson and Richard Hutcherson.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Hodges family Cemetery on English Road.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount or other times at the home of Steve and Becky Hodges.
