Norma Jean Akers

Norma Jean Akers, age 75 of Rocky Mount died Monday, November 26, 2012. She was born December 23, 1936 a daughter of the late Otha Wade and Mary Jane Mattox. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Akers; and brothers, John Wesley Mattox, Edward H. (Lum) Mattox, James Dallas Mattox, Leroy Mattox. Surviving are her husband, Donnie Akers; two sons, Donald (Eddie) Akers and wife Sharon, Dillard Akers and wife Iris; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Will Akers; brothers, Clyde Mattox and wife Polly, George Haywood Mattox and wife Jean, Euell Nelson (Dick) Mattox; sister-in-law, Peggy Handy and husband Randy; many nieces and nephews; and best friends, Frank and Janice Manning. Norma Jean loved God, her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed bingo and bluegrass music and her Wednesday night rook partners. Memorial services will be conducted from Henry Fork Church of the Brethren 6 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Henry Fork Church of the Brethren Building Fund. Her family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Henry Fork Church.
