Norman Carson, age 86 of Sydnorsville, Virginia passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 surrounded by his family. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He also served the communities of Ben Salem, PA and Galloway Township, NJ as a Police Officer until his retirement. He later moved to Virginia in 1987. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ester Carson; his siblings, along with his step-grandson, Raymond D. Reinhard. Surviving are his wife, Helen (Leek) Carson; step-son, Ray Reinhard and wife Kathy. Also left behind are step-granddaughter, Rachel Sigmon and her children, Rowan Sigmon and Sailor Atkinson; step-grandchildren, Melissa and John Philpott and their son, Braeden; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Edna Oeser; and sister-in-law, Marie Hayes; special nieces and nephews. Norm enjoyed fishing, family vacations, helping with the families Goose Dam Campground, baseball games and helping with Ray’s “R3” racecar. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Park, c/o Town of Rocky Mount, 345 Donald Ave., Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park with Military Honors.
