Oneida Chitwood Moran

Elizabeth Oneida Chitwood Moran, age 87 of Rocky Mount passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 8, 2010. She was born on October 24, 1923 in Franklin County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Homer and Victoria Cundiff Chitwood; husband, Thomas Lee Moran; brother, Archie Allen Chitwood; infant brothers, Douglas Chitwood, twins Paul and Silas Chitwood; brother-in-law, Posey Moran. Oneida worked at JP Stevens for 28 years retiring in 1973. She attended Hodgesville Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving as Secretary/Treasurer for many years and served on the Ladies Auxiliary in various capacities. She was an avid quilter and loved her crafting hobbies as well as her flowers. Surviving are her daughters, Hilda Moran, Laura Nieberlein and husband John; son, H.D. Moran and wife Tina; sisters-in-law, Gladys Barbour and Mildred Chitwood; grandchildren, Venessa (Nessy) Rutrough, Jason Rutrough and wife Kathy, Christopher Williams and wife Robyn, Matthew Moran and fiancée Olivia Christley, Tori Moran, Kristen Nieberlein, Sean Nieberlein and fiancée Martha Miller, and Jason Nieberlein; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and Carilion Hospice of Franklin County for the excellent care they provided. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
