On Thursday, May 14, 2015 a special man went to be with the Lord. Oney Clay Hurt, age 63 of Glade Hill passed away at his home with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Louise Hurt; brother, Wesley Hurt; father-in-law, Grover Hall; and brother-in-law, Rodney Cundiff. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42 years, Roxie Hurt; sons, Brian (Amy) Hurt of Findlay, Ohio, Kevin (Lindsay) Hurt of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Clay, Eli, and Nora Hurt, the most precious gifts in his life. Also surviving are his sister, Ann Richardson of Martinsville, Va.; brother, Bobby (Pam) Hurt of Wirtz, Va.; mother-in-law, Lorene Hall; sisters-in-law, Fay (Calvin) Hurt, Bonnie Cundiff, Maryann (Watson) Smith, Patsy (Larry) Houston, Jean Powell, Teresa (Benny) Thompson, Joan (Ricky) Reece, Cindy Matherly; brothers-in-law, Timmy (Sheila) Hall, Jeff (Tammy) Hall, Steve (Debbie) Hall; many nieces and nephews, cousins, church family, and an abundance of friends. Oney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He always had a smile for you and never met a stranger. He retired from Mod-u-Kraf homes after 38 years of service. He was a devoted member of Doe Run Christian Church where he was an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Treasurer. He was a dedicated Hokie, Red Sox, Cowboys and Mark Martin fan. He coached community recreation sports teams and was a past scout pack leader. Funeral services will be conducted from Doe Run Christian Church 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Michael Stump and Rev. Dan Agee officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Doe Run Christian Church at 3536 Doe Run Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. His family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
