Opal Bowling Martin Thomas, age 92 of Rocky Mount, VA and formerly of Martinsville, VA passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She was born October 7, 1918 to the late Homer T. and Lala Spencer Bowling. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Thomas; brothers, Rick Bowling and wife Ivelet, Welvie “Webb” Bowling. She was retired from E.I. DuPont in Martinsville, VA. Surviving are her daughter, Dixie and husband Lynn Davis; one brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Elva Bowling; sister-in-law, Hazel Bowling; one granddaughter, Lynette Davis of Northern Virginia; several cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. The family would like to thank Sarah and Buggs and the staff of Fork Mountain Rest Home for their wonderful care she received while there. Opal and her husband Dalton traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home. Opal was of the Episcopalian Faith. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 12:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. John Gardner of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department or the Franklin County Rescue Squad, 1488 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
