Oren Howard Jones, age 96 of Ferrum died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
He was born February 18, 1913 in Asheville, NC and was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Farmer Jones; and son, George Lenoir Jones.
He resided in Dare, VA where he worked at NASA Langley Research Center for over 30 years and was an integral part of the Apollo Space Program. Mr. Jones enjoyed many years of retirement which involved woodworking, gardening, basket making, fishing, cooking, writing stories and poems, and taking care of his farm and animals. He was also a devoted member of Ferrum Faith Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are his children, Mike Jones, Angela Marshall, Howard “Tom” Jones and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Maria Durbin and husband Kenny, Anne Jones, Len Jones and wife Rachel, Michael Jones, Rachel Jones, Jeremy Gibson, Heather Summers, Tom Jones, Brian Jones and wife Lindsey; and great-grandchildren, Julie, Grace, Savana, Jacob, Sierra, Ashton, Ian, Gwendolyn and Ahlana.
Graveside services will be conducted from the Ingram Family Cemetery 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
