Otha P. Akers

Otha (O.P.) Akers, age 94, of Callaway went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2009. He was born October 18, 1914, a son of the late E. Garry and Bevelene Akers. He was also preceded in death by his brother E. Garry Jr., two sons; Gary Lee and Harry Lynn Akers. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 74 years Florence W. Akers, one son Steven Akers and wife Vicki, one daughter Cassandra Milliron and husband Jack, four grandchildren and spouses, Jay Milliron (Stephanie), Troy Akers (Amy), Monica Shepard (Gary), Joshua Akers (Lynn), eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are John Corel a very close cousin, just like a brother, who lived with the family several years, Mark Cannaday, a special devoted friend. O.P. was a life long member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church and really appreciated and loved his many friends. He was a contract hauler for many years in Franklin County. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. David Coddington and Rev. David McCarty officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Memorial Park.
