Otis Ray Funk, 96, of Boones Mill, Virginia, passed away at home Tuesday, August 22, 2023, with loved ones by his side. Otis was born in Black Wolf, West Virginia, on March 6, 1927, to William Levi Funk and Eula Beckner Funk. Otis is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Ray Funk, his parents and thirteen siblings. Otis was a Navy veteran who honorably served his country during WWII. On July 5, 1950, he married his sweetheart, Bertha Olivia Walters. Together, they share three children, Wanda Holland (Wills) and Teresa Cottrell (Bobby) all of Boones Mill, Virginia. Their son Kenneth passed away in 1973. Otis was a skilled carpenter, business owner and real estate investor.  He owned Roanoke’s first drywall business and later owned Gypsum Distributors. His had a passion of owning race cars. He attended Red Valley Methodist Church. He was a long-time member of the Issacs Masonic Lodge of Boones Mill. Otis loved his friends and adventure and helping those in need.  He was an avid hunter, enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and a good yard sale. He and Bertha often took long drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Family meant the world to Otis, and he found much joy spending time with his grandchildren and their families, Kenneth Holland (Lorie), Michael Holland (Hillary), Matthew Holland (Heather), Amber Ross and Shane Cottrell. Otis was blessed with 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Otis would say he lived a full and happy life with wonderful friends, family, and a wife he cherished. There will be a private graveside ceremony held on September 2, 2023. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
