Owen Lee Lewis, Jr.

Owen Lee Lewis, Jr., age 40 of Rocky Mount went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 23, 2010. He was born April 1, 1970 and was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Malcolm O. Lewis and Bernard Anholt. He was a member of the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years and was an active member of Blue Ridge Gospel Tabernacle where he served as youth leader for eight years. Owen was also a gifted woodworker. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Lewis; children, Isaac, Amber, Isabella and Andrew Lewis; father and step-mother, Owen L. Lewis, Sr. and wife Betty; mother, Jean Lewis; two brothers, Aaron Lewis, Kevin Lewis and wife Allecia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Hildred Newberry; and foster parents, Steve and Susan Smith. Funeral services will be conducted from Blue Ridge Gospel Tabernacle 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Philip Crandall officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Chapel Building Fund, 445 Blue Ridge Court, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Chief Posey Dillon, 200 Brookshire Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
