Pat Potter Malpass of Houston, Texas and formerly of Franklin County departed this life after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 7, 2008 at her home.

Born July 8, 1940 she was diagnosed with cancer in August, 1985 which after many treatments she was in remission until 2000 which it reoccurred. For the past 2 ½ years she has been a brave soldier undergoing tests with new drugs and treatments to fight to survive not only herself but maybe to help someone else always keeping a smile and a positive outlook. She retired in 2001 after working for the Federal Government for 33 years, first for FBI in Washington, D.C. then National Forestry Service and at the time of her retirement NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston. She was active in church working mostly with children and she spent lots of time with other cancer patients and cancer centers giving encouragement to other people facing situations she was facing herself.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Dora Potter; brother, Bobby G. Potter.

Pat is survived by her husband, Al Malpass; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Hulse Wagner; three grandchildren, Holly, Lynn and Will Wagner all of Houston, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Shelba and Page English, Glade Hill; nieces and nephews, Shay and Jeff Brill, Charlottesville, Gina and KC Miller, Charleston, South Carolina, Julie Ellington, David and Susan Potter, Brian and Brenda Potter, all of Cummings, Georgia; her four aunts and one uncle, Ruby Reynolds, Loal Mae Potter, Hoover and Ruby Potter, all of Rocky Mount and Bertha Law Thacker, Capital Heights, Maryland; many cousins and friends from the area.

Memorial services celebrating Pat’s life will be held in Houston on Friday, January 11, 2008 and at the Potter Family Cemetery in Snow Creek at a later date, and will be announced by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
