Patricia Rowe Sawyers, age 61 of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 peacefully at home comforted by family and friends after struggling with cancer.
She was a former math teacher and guidance counselor for the Franklin County School System, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Patty is a past member of Wythe County Eastern Star, Franklin County Education Association and the Virginia Tech Booster Club. She was a graduate of Wythe County High School and achieved her B.S. degree and Masters of Education degree from Virginia Tech.
Preceded in death by her father, Richard Rowe and her mother Marion Rowe of Wytheville.
Mrs. Sawyers is survived by her husband of 33 years, Thomas R. Sawyers; two sons, John R. Sawyers and Jason T. Sawyers; daughter-in-law, Megan R. Sawyers; grandson, Easton J. Sawyers; sister, Carolyn McHone; brother, James R. Rowe; and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 3 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kassidy Foster’s family, Medical Charities of Floyd County, Va., 100 East Main Street, Room 108, Floyd, Va. 24091 or on-line at www.samefight.org.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday with her family receiving friends from 6-9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
