Paul E. Corn, age 87 of Rocky Mount died Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born in 1931 and grew up in Southern Indiana. He is survived by these members of his immediate family, his loving wife, Billie Husemann Corn; a sister, Fern Crecelius of Woodlands, Texas; Bill and Angela Flora Corn, son and daughter-in-law of Franklin County; their children and his grandchildren, Aaron, Brittany and Jessica; Jeanne Ketchum, daughter, her children and his grand­children, Katlynn and Jonathan. Dr. Corn was an elder in the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church and formerly an elder in the Colonial Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. He has taught Sunday School lessons for many years as a Baptist, a Methodist, and Presbyterian. He is now a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church. As an educator of some 30 years he has served as a high school teacher, college administrator, university professor and public school administrator. He retired from the Franklin County Public Schools, where he may be remembered as a former principal of Rocky Mount and Henry Elementary Schools and Director of Research for Franklin County Schools. Dr. Corn migrated from Indiana to Virginia in 1966 to accept a position as a professor of Higher Education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. Desiring a more rural environment for themselves and their children, he and Billie moved to Franklin County in late 1974. A man of letters, having received a PhD in 1966 from Indiana University in the study of higher education and American literature, he has continued writing articles and has published four books: two are religious studies: Our Roots of Faith and Prima Facie Evidence . . .; a novel, A Good Killin’ on Peaceful Ridge , and an autobiography: Cornflakes . There are free copies of his books available to any interested reader attending the memorial service at the Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 with Rev. Matthew Ricks officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a church of choice, YMCA, or Carilion Hospice of Franklin County. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
