Raymond Paul Wood, age 87 of Boones Mill died Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
He was born April 4, 1920, a son of the late Leslie and Mary Hickman Wood.
He was a Deacon Emeritus and Sunday school Superintendent of Boones Mill Baptist Church. He never met a stranger, greeting people with a friendly smile and a warm handshake.
He loved bluegrass music and played the bass fiddle.
Paul retired from E. I. DuPont after many years of service.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Ina Montgomery Wood; brothers and sisters, Ezra, James, Marvin, Harry, Charlie, Roy, Cassie and June.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. and Jelaine Wood, Rocky Mount, Robert (Bob) and Sylvia Wood, Boones Mill; grandchildren, Karen Wood Brubaker, Boones Mill, Julie Wood, Roanoke, Cindy Wood, Richmond; great-grandsons Josh Brubaker and Zach Brubaker; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Clyde Wood Bowman, Polly Wood, Geneva Wood, James and Margie Montgomery; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Boones Mill Baptist Church 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 with Rev. Patrick Collins and Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
