Peggy Chitwood Turman, 67, of Penhook, VA died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Alice Hubbard Chitwood.
She had 40+ years of service in the Franklin County Public School System; 25 years as a school bus driver and 29 years in food service at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. She loved her job in food service and worked often as a substitute after her retirement in 2006.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabel C. Bowles, one brother Oliver Chitwood, and son-in-law, Edsel W. Foley.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, W. Glenn Turman, two daughters and sons-in-law; Deborah Foley Creech and husband Stephen of Shenandoah, VA, and Tina Turman Cundiff and husband, David, of Penhook, VA; Four Grandchildren, Shaun J. Foley, Ashley R. Creech, Timothy S. Creech, and Ethan R. Cundiff; Three Brothers: Coleman Chitwood, New Castle, DE, Ulis Chitwood, Rocky Mount, VA, Henry Clifton Chitwood, Conway, SC; Two sisters Madeline C. Brown, Salem, VA, Edith C. Perdue, Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by a sister-in-law and her husband, Faye and Bobby Moyer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008 with the Rev. Brad Dulaney and the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Interment will follow in Gogginsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, but the family asks that you consider donating Gideon Bibles in her memory as well.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
