Percy W. “Pete” Meador, age 91 of Wirtz died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 28, 1918 a son of the late William and Hattie Caffey Meador. He was retired from U.S. Steel (Virginia Bridge Division) with 30 years service. A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he served on the USS St. Paul (Destroyer Ship). Mr. Meador was a member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church and was an avid gardener. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Virginia E. Meador; children, Gloria Scott and husband Frankie, Donald Meador and friend Lois, Sue Taylor Etter and husband Michael, Percy Meador, Steven Meador, Kenneth Meador and wife Debbie, Penny Prillaman and husband Eddie, Rodney Meador and wife Mandy; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Dee Meador, Raymond and Claudine Meador, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Burton White officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
