Percy Vaughan (Pete) Crane, 85 of Rocky Mount said his final good-byes and went to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 26, 2007.
A U.S. Navy WWII combat veteran in the Pacific theater, he settled in Grundy, Virginia after the war with his bride, Lillian O. Breeding Crane, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Dewey and Virgie Crane of Bluefield, West Virginia; his brother Merrell Crane and sister Iva Dean Munsey.
He is survived by his chosen children, Jerry E. Crane (Susan), Lehan S. Crane (Stephanie) and Cynthia C. Mink (Randy); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends, who include life-long friends Alonzo (Preacher) Hardy and Selma Dodd.
A long-time resident of Grundy, Pete served as Deacon and faithful member of Grundy Baptist Church. He was bestowed the honor of Deacon Emeritus by that church in 2005. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, Pete and Lilly moved to Rocky Mount where they were active in Franklin Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. J. Larry Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Carilion Hospice of Franklin County.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday with his family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
