Pete Wilson Sledd, age 84 of Callaway left his beloved family and farmland, Saturday, April 5, 2014. He went to join his father, E.W. Sledd, mother, Mary Hale Sledd, step-mother, Dolly Hale Sledd. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Lloyd, Harry, Junior, and infant sister Joyce Elaine. Surviving is his faithful and loving wife of 60 years, Jeanette Dudley Sledd. Left to carry on his farming legacy are sons and spouses, Roger and Ann, Gary and Diane; Grandson and wife Decon and Amber; Granddaughter AnnKate; step-grandchildren Clint, Chelsea, and Mitch Custer. Also surviving are his sisters, Eva, Ethel, Serena, Norma Jean, Cecile and her husband Fred; sister-in-laws Joyce Sledd and Helen Sledd; numerous nieces, nephews, good friends, and neighbors. Pete loved the land and was proud to be a farmer. He took pride in his crops, garden, and enjoyed every minute he had with his family. He was also proud to serve in the US Army in 1951-1953 where he was stationed in Germany. Pete had a very strong faith and always led by example. When able he attended Highland United Methodist Church where he was a member, church Lay Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and served on various other committees. He was a member of the Franklin County Gideon camp; and American Legion Post #6. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franklin County Public Safety Dept. in recognition of their dedicated service. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 with Rev. Jason Bryant and Rev. Ray Bayse officiating. Interment will be private in the Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. ? 8:00 p.m. Monday April 7, 2014 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
