Peter Anthony Benosky, 79, of Smith Mountain Lake, Va. died on Friday, October 2, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on August 26, 1936 in Amsterdam, N.Y. Peter is survived by his wife Patricia, his sons Christopher and Adam and their spouses Teresa and Betsy, as well as two stepchildren Trish Petty and Michael Moran, and their spouses Mark and Dulane. Peter was very proud of his seven grandchildren Jacob Benosky, Scott and Blair Benosky, Ashley and Austin Petty and Ethan and Quinn Moran. Peter graduated from Syracuse University in 1958 and began a long career in civil engineering and landscape architecture. He worked for the state of New York in the Department of Housing for many years before starting his own company with his partner Henry Reynolds in Somerset, N.J. In 2002 he retired and moved permanently to Smith Mountain Lake. He enjoyed fishing and boating and sharing his knowledge of Polish culture. He was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church serving on the Parish Council and was proudly part of the “Tuesday Boys”, a volunteer group of men that took care of the church and grounds every week. Peter was always generous with his time and willing to offer his technical and creative landscape architecture skills. At Resurrection, he was known as the cartoonist because of the hand design drawings he created to support design improvements to the parking lot, the columbarium, and other parts of the grounds. According to his wishes a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, Va.
