Phillip Alvin Skiles, age 64 of Roanoke, born March 17, 1952 in Pratt, KS to Alvin and Mary (Bayer) Skiles, passed into eternity in the afternoon of December 21, 2016 at Rocky Mount Rehab, where he resided for 2 months. He answered the call of the Master and was baptized into the fellowship of the Old German Baptist Brethren on a cold, ice breaking day, December 1968. God’s gifts to Phillip were woodworking, quoting scriptures and lifting hearts with singing. He used his woodworking skills in various positions throughout the years. He married Mary “Jane” Hubbard of Troutville on July 27, 1974. They started housekeeping in Virginia and within a year moved to his homeland, Sawyer, KS. Their children, Marsha, Marita and Chad were born in Pratt, KS before he returned his family to Troutville in 1981. He also affliated with the Fleming Chapel in Roanoke and the Clearbrook Assembly where he was anointed in July 2015. He is survived by Jane, Marsha and Joel Jamison, Marita and Jimmy Larry, Chad and Sara Skiles, eight grandchildren, William and Wyatt Thurman, Tyler Phipps, Cassie, Evan and Gracie Jamison, Oliver and Grayson Skiles, his mother Mary, siblings Margaret and Darold Peters, Lavern and Sonya Skiles, David and Tammy Skiles, in-laws, Betty and Steve Garber, Ann and Mark DeMaury, Robert and Susan Hubbard, Myrtle and David Montgomery. He was preseded in death by his dad, Alvin and grandparents, Seth and Ruby (Austin) Skiles and Archie and Iva (Brumbaugh) Bayer. Viewing will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 5-8 p.m. and an hour before services which will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at l0:00 a.m., all at Flora Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Ave., Suite 314, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
