Phyllis Jean Rakes, age 65 of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 22, 2005. She attended Penn Forest Church of God, and was a very faithful servant to God. She was also a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.B. “Hop” and Etta Williams Anderson. Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Charles N. Rakes; her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven M. “Mike” Rakes, Rocky Mount, Richard C. and Kellie J. Rakes, Roanoke; her granddaughters, Brooke and Bethany Rakes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard D. and Sue Anderson, Ralph W. and Linda Anderson, all of Roanoke; special friends, Diane Hale, Rocky Mount, Carolyn Epperly, Roanoke; a host of other loving family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Sam Belisle and Rev. Jason Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
