R. Gerald Hudson

R. Gerald Hudson, age 76 of Rocky Mount went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 12, 2011 surrounded by his loving daughters following a long, courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Gerald was a United States Army Veteran serving as Private First Class in the 68th Armored Infantry and retired as a supervisor with Lane Furniture Company after many years of service. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Gerald was an avid reader and read hundreds of books, and enjoyed his friends and playing cards. He was a blessing to his family and a much loved father, brother and son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reggie Oliver and Tressie Bennett Hudson. Surviving are three daughters, Denise “Neicie” Hudson Hurst of Keller, TX, Kim “Boo” Brown and husband David, Jr. of Roanoke, Sandi Churn and husband John of Rocky Mount; grandchildren whom he called his “pure joy”, Emily and Brennan Hudson Hurst, Dalton and Anna Brown, Caitlin and Madisyn Churn; and sisters, Doris Burgess, Mary Alice Menefee (Charles); several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Inhorn and the nursing staff on 10 South at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their loving care of Gerald and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redwood United Methodist Church, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
