Rachael O. Newbill, of Atlanta, Georgia died Wednesday, June l8, 2008.
She was born on November 21, 1933 in Mullens, S.C. to Ashley B. Owens and Agnes Grant Owens.
Mrs. Newbill was a 1954 graduate of Furman University and taught in the public school system for over 30 years. She was a Reading Specialist in DeKalb County until her retirement in 1994.
Mrs. Newbill was an avid reader and loved gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Col. James P. Newbill, USA Ret.; daughters, Linda Schurz of Poquoson, VA; Virginia Sharitz of Mableton, GA; son, James H. Newbill of Tucker, GA; and seven grandchildren. Col. Newbill is a native of Franklin County and his children Linda and Virginia attended school in Franklin County during one of his U.S. Army overseas assignments.
Funeral services will be conducted from Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Dr. Patricia Meadows and Rev. Deroy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Newbill Family Cemetery in Wirtz, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MDA, 2175 Northlake Parkway, Suite 144; Tucker, GA 30084.
The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. Local arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA.
