Rachel Beckner

Rachel Montgomery Beckner, age 80 of Wirtz passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 5, 1930 in Franklin County, Va. a daughter of the late John Lee and Cora Kingery Montgomery. She grew up and lived with her family until she was united in marriage to Lewis Harmon Beckner of Forsyth County, NC on September 27, 1952. Here they established their home where they lived and worked on the family farm. She moved to Franklin County, Va. in 1962 with her family where they continued farming. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harmon Beckner. Surviving are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Byron Jay and Irene Beckner, Harmon Lee and Wanda Beckner; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Kingery Bower and Ronald; nine grandchildren, Curtis Beckner and wife Marcie, Daryl Beckner, Sandra Beckner, Rita Miller and husband James, Joey Beckner, Andy Beckner, Tommy Bower and wife Susan, Crystal Bower and Deanna Bower; five great-grandchildren, Zayne, Zolton and Zion Beckner, Blake and Mindy Bower; one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Annie Montgomery; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Joseph Denlinger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Velma Montgomery, Louise Klopfenstein, Virgil Jamison, Emma Montgomery, Janie Montgomery, Paul and Hazel Beckner, Vernon Jamison, and Mary Bayer. Funeral services will be conducted from Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10 a.m. Monday with the Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
