Rachel Meeks Blankenship

Rachel Meeks Blankenship of Moneta passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at the age of 96. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Rachel was born May 4, 1925, a daughter of the late Emmett and Judy Meeks. She was a long-time member of Mt. Ivy Baptist Church where she served faithfully. Rachel worked very hard for her family. She worked on the farm while raising 11 children and also worked at MW Windows for 20 years before retiring.  She was preceded in death by her husband Laymond Blankenship; daughter, Linda Hodges; grandson Mike Rigney; great- grandson Tyriek Hill; great-granddaughter Samantha Neal; sisters Virginia (Howard) Osterbind, Mary (Mayo) Hartman; brother Clyde (Fannie) Meeks; son-in-law, Jerry Davis.

Rachel was the Matriarch of the Blankenship family and leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children Wayne (Linda) Blankenship, Betty (Walter) Amos, Frances Davis, Patsy (Charles) English, Robert (Sandra) Blankenship, James (Marjory) Blankenship, Johnny (Debbie) Blankenship, Susie (Don) Sloan, Rocky (Gloria) Blankenship and Connie (Melvin) Bowman; 20 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers Oscar (Onie) Meeks, Ernest (Polly) Meeks; sisters, Lucille Wright, Violet Flora and Ruby Meeks.

Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ivy Christian Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
