Raymond George Rex

On May 17, 2019 Raymond George Rex, 85, of Wirtz, VA went to be with the Lord. Ray proudly served our country in the US Air Force before serving as both a police officer and volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Chatham, NJ. He owned his own business for most of his career and relocated to Wirtz in 1987. He is preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and George Rex, of Chatham, NJ and his son Douglas Rex of Moneta, VA. His survivors include his wife Ernestine Leech Rex of Wirtz, VA; his brother Bruce Rex and his wife Kathleen Rex of Chatham, NJ. Ray is also survived by daughter Deborah Rex and her husband Marc Broadman, of Mesa, AZ; daughter Donna Rex Geist and her wife Julie Johnston Geist of Lancaster, PA; daughter Dale Rex Thompson and her husband Charles Thompson of Mills River, NC; son David Rex and his wife Marquita Maria Rex of Easton, PA, and daughter-in-law Michelle Rex of Moneta, VA. Ray was also a loving grandfather of nine and a great grandfather of ten children. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital are greatly appreciated. A celebration of his life will be held 4 p.m. Friday May 24, 2019 at Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
