Reva was born in Patrick County Va, raised on the windmill gap in Rock West Virginia and attended North Fork Highschool. At 17 she married her high school sweetheart and moved off the mountain to the big city of Chicago, it was there she gave birth to her first born and only Son Barry Jones in 1958. Her baby became her entire world and from that moment on everything she did was for him. She taught herself how to ride the metro to go and look for jobs and became the strong independent woman we all know and love today. She went back to West Virginia for a short season and then moved to Washington Dc. She got a job as a telephone operator at Greyhound, going back to West Virginia every Friday to see her son and coming back Monday morning for work. It wasn't long before she was able to get her own place and bring her son with her. It was there she met her second husband and from that marriage she had her second child and only daughter Laurian “muffie” in 1968. She stayed with greyhound 23 ½ years working her way to the top and becoming regional manager! Taking no prisoners and playing no games, being strong minded and willed, earning everything she was given! During her tenure at greyhound, she befriended a driver named Gene Harry bonding over their mutual love for fresh brewed coffee (which Reva kept a fresh pot always on brew in her office) camping, family and the Lord. In 1987 after the death of Gene’s first wife, that friendship ended and a beautiful marriage began lasting 36 years until Gene passed away in 2024.
Reva and Gene created a beautiful life together raising a granddaughter and doing everything they loved. In 1993 they bought their first camper and started traveling and in 2001 they bought a permanent lot at the Wilderness Presidential Camp Ground in Fredericksburg Va. Reva took much pride in her lot and decorated it as if it were her second home because it truly was! They brought many friends and family to the campground creating lasting memories to all who came. In 2007 Reva and Gene sold their house in Maryland and moved to Rocky Mount Va, making all new friends and becoming members of Callaway Church of God. Reva became an active member of the community volunteering at everything she could. She volunteered at the hospital axillary and also doing bingo with the elderly, she especially enjoyed working at the soup kitchen and helping those in need, she was truly blessed when it came to hospitality she knew how to serve! She loved to cook and never knew how to cook a regular sized meal, every time she cooked it was enough for an army! One thing Reva loved to do was gather people and she was good at it! She enjoyed being with friends and family and having a good time, laughing and making memories! Her two favorite things in this life were singing and taking care of her plants! To come to her house was to walk into a Lowes Garden center, she had a green thumb like no other. People would bring plants to her to nurse back to health and also start plants for them because it was her specialty.
Reva’s passion for singing southern Gospel music is something she enjoyed most on this earth, she loved singing and praising the Lord! She sung anywhere and everywhere and didn’t care! She had a natural microphone in her throat and you knew when she was singing! Reva sung up until her last day on this earth and is now singing day in and day out in Heavens Choir! Reva would want everyone to come together and praise the Lord, rejoice with her in her new Glorified body, rejoice in the fact that she is dancing and singing before the Lord and embracing her loved ones who went on before her! She would want everyone to laugh and sing and be merry no sadness or tears, for Joy is her everlasting portion!
-And the peace of God, Which Surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
