Richard Morris “Santa Claus” Alley, age 72 of Ferrum died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He retired from MW Manufacturers of Rocky Mount and was a loyal and devoted patron of the YMCA in Rocky Mount.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Lee Clark Alley; his parents, William and Nellie Wilkerson Alley; and a brother, William Odell Alley.
Surviving are his daughters, Jeanne Wright, Collinsville, Vickie Crickenberger, Charlottesville, Patricia Coleman, Martinsville, Donna Blankenship and Mabel Sink, Rocky Mount; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Havice, Painesville, OH; brothers, Tom Alley, Cleveland, OH and Robert Alley, Elliston.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 9:30 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in the Amos Family Cemetery in Roanoke County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County YMCA for children’s activities, P.O. Box 720 Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service and other times at the home of his daughter, Jeanne Wright. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
