Richard Bowman Clingenpeel, age 77 of Rocky Mount, died suddenly on the morning of Friday, April 12, 2019. He was a son of the late Lloyd M. and Velma Bowman Clingenpeel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Lloyd Clingenpeel and his sister, Velma Jo Stanton. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Clingenpeel; nephew, Patrick Clingenpeel (Beth Greene); niece, Emily Stanton; nephew, Howard B. Stanton III (Kate); great-nieces, Meredith Clingenpeel, Chloe Clingenpeel and Katie Greene; great-nephew, Stephen Lloyd Clingenpeel; and many cousins, friends, and family. Growing up, he took pleasure in working on the family dairy farm for his dad, and later, for his brother Glenn. He attended Hargrave Military Academy. Richard enjoyed the simplest things in life, such as driving around the community, looking at his magazines, “Country” and “Birds & Blooms”, and reading the Franklin News-Post. He always enjoyed eating a good meal, sitting on the porch looking at the mountains, and watching the cars go by and he always enjoyed looking at a field full of cows; his favorite animal. His family loved him and always will. They extend a special thanks to Doris Sink who was his caregiver for 20 years. Funeral services will be conducted at Antioch Church of the Brethren, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 with Pastor Andy Duffey officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
