Richard O. (Dick) Angle, age 79 of Rocky Mount passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy C. Angle, who passed away November 4, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Marvin G. and Dora C. Angle; brother, M. Jackson (Jack) Angle; sister, Joyce A. Allyn; and son-in-law, William R. Reynolds. He is survived by his sisters and their husbands, Jenny and Chuck Unietis of Banner Elk, NC and Win and Dickie Hylton of Pinellas Park, FL. Dick is survived by sons and wives, Edward (Eddie) and Helene Angle, Mark and Judy Angle; and daughter and husband, JeRena and Harold Handy, all of Rocky Mount, VA. He is also survived by grandsons, Jonathan Angle of Rocky Mount, VA, and Shad and his wife Manue Reynolds of Austin, TX and his great-grandsons, Tyler Angle of Moneta, VA and Gabe Reynolds of Austin, TX. Also surviving are a sister-in-law and her husband, Julia C. and Raymond Powell; and two brothers-in-law and their wives, Lloyd and Mamie Cooke, John Garnett and Lois Cooke; many nieces and nephews. Dick was born July 23, 1929 in the Flint Hill community of Franklin County. He served in the US Air Force Reserves. He was retired from the family business, Angle’s Shop, which was founded by his grandfather Cal Angle in 1879. He was the 4th of 7 generations that have worked in the shop. Dick returned to the shop full time after his father retired. He had also worked at GE in Salem and TRW, which became the VPI & SU Research and Test Center, in Rocky Mount. His many interests included blacksmithing, steam engines, antique farm shows, and gardening. In lieu of food and flowers the family requests donations be made to the Stephanie Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund, 350 Angle Plantation Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to Flint Hill United Methodist Church. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Flint Hill United Methodist Church cemetery. At the conclusion of the service Dot’s and Dick’s ashes will be interred.
