Robert H. Williams, age 82 of Rocky Mount, Va. died Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Bob was the third child and only son of Herman and Sadie Williams of Woodlawn, Va. Two older sisters, Jean Kirby and Jewell Summey, predeceased Bob. After high school graduation in Woodlawn, he went to Emory and Henry College, arriving there when he was but 15 years old. He graduated Emory and Henry in 1950 and lettered in Baseball. Bob spent much of his career in the furniture manufacturing business, where he was highly regarded and well liked by all who knew him. A true gentleman and a hard worker, Bob will also be fondly remembered for his sly sense of humor. He had a lifelong passion for golf and baseball, and he also enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and staying physically active. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bob is survived by his widow, Virginia Greer Williams whom he married 53 years ago. He is also survived by his daughter, Cecile Garrett, her husband Scott, and their children Holly and Cole. He is survived by his son, Madison Williams, along with his wife Sally and their daughter Shelby Mariah. A graveside funeral service, conducted by the Reverend John Gardner of Trinity Episcopal Church, will be held at the Greer Cemetery in Sontag on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive guests at the cabin immediately following the service and interment. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Emory and Henry College, P.O. Box 947, Emory, VA 24327 or to Celeste Park, a public park named in memory of Bob's deceased niece, Celeste Greer.
