Rodger Douglas Austin, age 66 of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, September 9, 2014. He was born March 12, 1948 a son of the late James Harold and Vennie Hylton Austin. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, James Norman and Theora Sigmon; brothers and sisters, Clinton and Jane Austin, Adelle Woody, Frances Sledd, Stafford Austin, Irene Austin; in-laws, Mansfield and Eva Sigmon. Rodger was a United States Army Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Charlotte Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Angie Austin; grandson, Chase; brothers and sisters, James "Shorty" Austin, Shirley Franklin, Larry and Drema Austin, Glenda and Eddie Peters; in-laws, Jimmy Sledd, Gladys and Herman Pate, Toby and Blanche Sigmon, Doris and Junior Montgomery, Ruth and Jack Walker, Ronnie and Rosemary Sigmon; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park, 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
