Roger Alan Pells, age 74 a resident of Smith Mountain Lake, VA and formerly of Hyde Park, NY passed away unexpectedly at home after experiencing a heart attack on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Born in Poughkeppsie, NY, he was the son of the late Earl and Mildred Hite Pells. Roger was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1967 and attended Dutchess Community College before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving one tour of duty in Vietnam.

On November 14, 1977, Roger married the love of his life, Judy Edmonds. Theirs was a true love story, lasting 45 years.

After retiring from the Dutchess County Sherriff’s Department, Roger searched for a place to enjoy his golden years. He found that special place at Smith Mountain Lake, VA.

Roger was a man with many passions; number one being his daughter Tracy and his grandchildren Sonia and Evan. His happy place was the beach. Always the chef, Roger loved to have dinner parties and to entertain friends. Fishing, metal detecting, and fast cars were his hobbies and he had many trophies to prove it. He loved his family beyond measure and was a loyal friend to many.

Roger is survived by his wife Judy at home, his daughter Tracy Pells Mott, and his grandchildren Sonia and Evan Mott, all residing in San Dimas, CA. He is also survived by his brother Richard of Schultzville, NY.  Roger will be greatly missed by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David Edmonds and his fiancé Colleen, Heidi and Joe Maloney, Mary and Jimmy McGill, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CrossPointe Church at 201 Burnt Chimney Rd, Wirtz, VA 24184 on Friday, February 10 th at 10:30am. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
