Roger L. Whitlock, age 70 of Wirtz went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 29, 2011. He was a United States Army Veteran and a lifetime member of AMVETS. He was also a member of Halesford Baptist Church where he was active working on the Cry of Christ Drama set. Mr. Whitlock also drove over two million safe miles as a Professional Truck Driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lena Whitlock; brothers, Howard, Fred, and Willie; and sister, Mable Barker; grandson, Justin Whitlock. Surviving are his wife, Jean Whitlock; son, Roger “Woody” Whitlock II and wife Kimber; daughter, Maria Whitlock; son, Kevin Whitlock and wife Bethany; grandchildren, Jeannie, James, Bryan, David, Katie, Adam, and Michael; five great-grandchildren Caridee, Dalton, Blake, Jaime, and Tristyn; brothers and sisters, Lewis, Melvin, Phyllis, Virginia, Peggy and Jane. Funeral services will be conducted from Halesford Baptist Church 12 noon Monday with Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 915, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
