Roy Plunkett Bowman, age 99 years 10 months and 27 days of Wirtz died Saturday, June 21, 2008.
He was born July 25, 1908 a son of the late Benjamin Harvey and Ida Elizabeth Plunkett Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Susie May Beckner in March, 1981; one daughter, Betty Jamison; one son-in-law, Loyd Jamison; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Wray; seven brothers, Henry, Lewis, Harry, Joel, Morie, John and Ezra.
He is survived by his four sons and their wives, Ezra and Susie Bowman, Orville and Ruth Bowman, Dallas and Marilyn Bowman, Marvin and Lois Bowman; two daughters and their husbands, Rachel and Ellis Jamison, Reva and Tommy Hudson; one brother, Charlie Bowman; 32 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; 59 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family request that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
The family will receive friends Monday 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.
