Roy Dennis Hodges, age 87 of Rocky Mount died Thursday, November 1, 2007.
He was born on April 7, 1920 a son of the late Willie T. and Betty Altice Hodges. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Hodges; son-in-law, Troy James.
Mr. Hodges was a humble, kind and generous man who enjoyed fishing and selling goods at the farmer’s market in Rocky Mount. He was also a Sunday school teacher for 47 years and a Deacon for 50 years.
Mr. Hodges is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Gertrude Hodges; daughters and son-in-law, Joyce James, Robin and David Campbell; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sherry Hodges; step-children, John R. and Diane Smith of Glade Hill, Zelma and Monroe Boyd of Ferrum, Bernice and James Shively of Ferrum, Watson and Mary Ann Smith, Darlene and Mark Hudson, Allen and Patricia Smith all of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, 4887 Hopkins Rd., Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Curtis English and Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount and at other times at the home, 65 Scott St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
