Roy Turner Jones, age 91 of Rocky Mount died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 23, 2017. Roy was born on February 19, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude Turner Jones and Thomas Fine Jones; by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Kitty Jenkins Jones; sisters, Ida Law and Frances Reynolds; and brothers, Robert, George, Jesse and Thomas. He is survived by his brother, Walter Lewis Jones; and brother, lifelong best friend and caregiver for the last four years of his life, Herbert Willard Jones. He is also survived by a special niece, Beverly Woody (David) and a loving great-niece who always made him smile, Lauren Woody; and his faithful companion, Snoopy. Also surviving are many other nieces and nephews who were part of his close knit family. Roy was a kind and gentle soul. He worked hard most of his life in his family business, Jones and Reynolds Sawmill. He was a skilled bulldozer operator and logger – known in Franklin County as one of the best. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing, dancing, and four wheeling. He loved to sit on the porch at the Jones Family Farm where many problems of the world were settled. Most of all, Roy loved his family. He and his brother, Herbert married sisters, Kitty and Mary Lee Jenkins. The four of them were inseparable. The family would like to express their gratitude to Roy’s special caregiver, Edith Gonzalez and would request that in lieu of food donations be made to the Franklin County Rescue Squad, 147 West Court Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 and to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main Street, Suite 314, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
