Ruby Rector Frye, age 94 of Redwood passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born in Bel Air, MD, April 21, 1919 to George Preston and Bertha Altice Rector. She married Styrl Leslie Frye July 30, 1937 in Salem, VA. They went on to share 59 years of marriage. Both were members of Furnace Creek Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1996. She was also preceded in death by their grandson, George (Max) Frye in 2010. Two sisters preceded her in death, Peggy Boles and Dorothy McMinnis; half-sister, Lou Harlan; and half-brother, Leo Rector. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James T. (Jimmy) Frye, and George M. and Linda B. Frye; one great-granddaughter, Halee Frye; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Claude Cooper; brother-in-law, Percy Boles and wife Jeanette; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruby cherished her family, home life, quilting, crocheting and all flowers, especially daylilies. She worked lovingly and tirelessly with her daylilies, knowing the names of most. Her memory will live on in the gardens of many around the county and surrounding areas that have daylilies from her garden. A very special thanks to Beverly and Joe Rutter for their unwavering, loving care for our mother Ruby during her illness. Thanks also to Carilion Hospice for their help and support. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday. The family respectfully request that no food be brought to the home.
