Through these brief words we want to say thank you for being there
From beginning to the present for all your love and care
You often went without
So we could have, you knew well what we were about
A teacher, nurse and firm hand
Guiding with compassion and able to understand
Times haven’t always been good
But you made the most of them so things for us could
There may have been times you know
That we didn’t act like it was so
But unlike any other
We’re glad you were given to us, as our Mother.
One of God’s angels on earth, Ruby Wright Scott, 90, of Boones Mill, VA departed this earthly life on October 18, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and her parents, William and Mary Wright. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Elsie Buford of Zephyrhills, FL; children and their spouses, Paula and Mitch Quinn, Sally and David Parker, William and Barbara Scott, Walter and Sally Scott and Benjie and Rhonda Scott; grandchildren, Brad and Kari Scott, Brandon (Stacy) and Kristin Bourne, Jacob and Rachel Parker; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Catie Bourne. Our mother was a 1939 graduate of Boone Mill High School where she was class valedictorian. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1943 from Lynchburg College where she was very active in sports, school plays and many other activities. Mom was devoted to the Lord and her church where she was an active lifelong member of Boones Mill Christian Church. She was devoted to her family, friends, students and her many pets. Our mother was an educator for 40 years. She loved her students and all children and had a positive impact on countless young people. She was a gentle disciplinarian, always complementing her students and lavishing them with praise. As a teacher, she treated her students as if they were her own children. In 1992 she was honored with a place in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She loved, taught and nurtured her own children as well. She taught us about giving, compassion, faith in God, respecting all life and the importance of serving others. We will miss her gentle spirit greatly. Our family wishes to express our sincere thanks to her caregivers, Sharon and Jimmy Mundy, as well as Saprina Wright. They have treated our mother as if she were their own. Their love, patience and compassion will never be forgotten. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their care and concern, along with Dr. Ezekiel Jones and his staff. Our thanks would not be complete without recognizing Sandy Hunt, who our mother loved as one of her own. A service celebrating her life will be held at Boones Mill Christian Church on Monday, October 22nd, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Roger Graves Sr. will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in the Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA. In lieu of flowers please make any memorials to Boones Mill Christian Church, 7950 Grassy Hill Road, Boones Mill, VA 24065, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
