Rudolph Flemon Jones, age 79, a native son of Franklin County, died Monday June 22, 2009. Born in Callaway Virginia, he grew up in the country learning the important things in life: Sweet sunshine for chores in the early mornings and cool evenings for hunting with friends. His character was good, strong and loyal. He had common sense and a right dry wit. He loved his family, his friends and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some of Rudolph's proudest accomplishments include: Boy Scout Leader, member of Franklin County Board of Supervisors, Babe Ruth League Baseball Coach, charter member of "The Board", President of the Employee Council at Dupont (Martinsville Plant), Jury Commissioner in Franklin County, member of the Governor's Council for Youth (Rotary) which became Franklin County Parks and Recreation, charter member and officer of the Callaway Rescue Squad, occasional member of the Blackwater Bluegrass Band, committee member for the Lifelong Learning Center at Phoebe Needles and member of the Gogginsville Methodist Church. He was a person well liked and respected, surrounded by friends, and enjoyed many many good times. He is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his wife, Molly; children, Donna Jones Wells (Tommy); Phil Jones (Jill); stepson Kasson Bratton (Olivia); grandsons, Jason Jones (Mackenzie); Drue Gray (Heather); Justin and Michael Wells; sisters, Ina Messinger (W.D., Sr.), Juanita Howell, Estelle Jones, Christine Jones, Geraldine Smith; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Wright; and brothers, Ishmael and Stafford. Funeral Services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMCOR P.O. Box 9068 New York, NY 10087, as well as Phoebe Needles Center Building Fund, 732 Turner's Creek Rd. Callaway, VA 24067. His family will be receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
