Russell Eugene Bowman, age 73 of Rocky Mount, passed away at his home Friday, May 22, 2009.
Eugene was a lifelong dairy farmer, mechanic and general handyman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myra Laprade Bowman; step-mother, Helen Bowman; grandparents, Dorus and Rosa Bowman, Joel and Bessie Laprade.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Peggy Hall Bowman; father, Hollace Bowman; brothers and sisters, James and Judy Bowman of Ridgeway, VA, Elizabeth and Elwood Oakes of Martinsville, VA, Hubert and Judy Bowman of Rocky Mount, VA, Ruth and John Santopolo of Rocky Mount, VA; step-sisters and brothers, Virginia Esson of Lady Lake, FL, Bonnie Royal of Clearwater, FL, Joe and Lois Quesenberry of Falling Waters, WV, Peter and Ursula Neumann of Union Bridge, MD; brothers-in-law, Don and Frances Hall of Roanoke, VA, J.W. Hall and friend Lou of Rocky Mount, VA; special farming colleagues, Hubert Bowman (brother), Tim Bowman (nephew) and Darrell Guilliams; namesake great-nephew, Eugene Douglas Bowman; numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Antioch Church of the Brethren 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2009 with Rev. David Wolfe and Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family requests no food brought to the home, instead a meal will be served after the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, Eugene wished for memorials to be made to the Antioch Church Men’s Fellowship, 2996 Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or to Camp Bethel, 328 Bethel Road, Fincastle, VA 24090. Thanks to all who visited, prayed and sent cards during Eugene’s illness; and special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and Good Samaritan Hospice.
His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Antioch Church of the Brethren.
