Listen to Obituary
Georgie Russell Hunt, Jr. formerly of Rocky Mount, VA and Turtletown, TN passed away suddenly on Monday, June 3, 2013. He was 69 years old. He was born in the Sontag Community, just outside of Rocky Mount, Virginia, the son of Georgie Russell Hunt, Sr. and Helen Slayton Hunt, both of whom who predeceased him. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College, class of 1966. It was there that he met his loving wife, Denise Duke, of Jacksonville, Florida. After graduation, he briefly worked at WLVA in Lynchburg in radio sales before going to work for Swift and Company as a salesman in the processed meats division. However, it was after leaving Swift that he found his true calling in automotive sales when he started to work for MOOG Automotive. He worked there for 26 years, living across the entire Southeast. After retiring from MOOG, he went to work for Shade Tree Farms outside of Warrenton, VA where he mastered the Bobcat and according to friends “could brush your teeth with it and not knick the enamel.” He enjoyed planting trees and various landscaping jobs, both commercial and private. He retired finally to Turtletown, Tennessee where he enjoyed keeping his yard immaculate, helping friends and neighbors with any chore that required his skills in repair, and helping keep the geese and squirrels out of his yard and garden. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Denise, his sister Nancy Rita Cheatwood (Allen), Lynchburg, Virginia, nephews John and Duke Regan of Jacksonville, Florida and Christopher Cheatwood of Vinton, Virginia. He will be mourned and missed by friends and neighbors across Virginia, Tennessee and Alabama. There will be a graveside service in Rocky Mount, Virginia at Franklin Memorial Park 2 p.m. on Friday, with a celebration of life to be held at Wilderness Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Reverend Amos Healey and Ron Hennis will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Wilderness Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
