Ruth H. Jones

Ruth H. Jones, age 89 of Rocky Mount passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly B. Jones; infant son, Roger C. Jones; her parents, James Goode and Nannie S. Hash; two brothers, Amos I. Hash of Ferrum, and Noel D. Hash of Radford; and two sisters, Virginia F. Hash of Ferrum and Ora H. Thomas of Stuart. She was a member of Long Branch Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by a foster daughter, Lisa E. Whitlock of Rocky Mount; feline companion, O2; one sister, Gustava H. Sutphin of Ellicott City, Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John H and Mary Ann Hash of Nashville, TN; one sister-in-law, Georgene H. Hash of Dublin; many nieces and nephews. She was employed by Franklin County School Board for 40 years. After retirement she stayed very active in numerous volunteer activities. Ruth was involved with Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, Business and Professional Women's Organization, Franklin County Retired Teachers, AARP, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Franklin County American Red Cross Blood Mobile, Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Blue Ridge Dinner Theater (Ferrum College), Salvation Army (bell ringing), Wednesday Bridge Club and visiting family and friends in their homes or the nursing home. Special thanks to all of her family and friends who stayed with her during her recent hospitalization. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday with Elders Carl and Mark Terry officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ferrum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Long Branch Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Mark Terry, 296 Bullrun Rd, Bassett, VA 24055, The American Cancer Society, 1079C Spruce Street, Martinsville, Virginia 24112 or Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, P.O. Box 69 Ferrum, VA 24088. The family respectfully requests no food. Her family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
